How Do I map my subdomain to my wordpress blog.

  • Unknown's avatar

I purchased a few years ago my domain here on wordpress.com. the DNS nameservers are pointing to my website host. To better my brand, I purchased the subdomain… blog.jbsisam.com. I created the CNAME record to point to my blog… jbsisam.wordpress.com.

Why is it not working? Did I set something up wrong in my DNS records.

And no, I do not want to point my domain to wordpress – just the subdomain mapping is all I need.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey Jason,

It doesn’t look like the correct CNAME record is set for jbsisam.com. Can you try setting the CNAME again according to these instructions?

    Hi Jeremey,

I followed the instructions and according to what I have written – my subdomain is blog.jbsisam.com and my blog is jbsisam.wordpress.com. I have the subdomain CNAME set as blog.jbsisam.com and the alias redirect set to jbsisam.wordpress.com.

    What I am I missing?

    Hi,

I believe I’ve found the issue. Currently, your domain jbsisam.com is registered with WordPress.com, but the domain is pointed elsewhere (INSPYRED it looks like). Since your domain is not being pointed to WordPress.com, the CNAME you entered at WordPress.com will not work. You’ll notice this message on your Edit Domains screen:

Your nameservers need to be set to NS1.WORDPRESS.COM and NS2.WORDPRESS.COM for these DNS records to work. If you have already updated the nameservers you can ignore this message; it will stop appearing soon.

For the CNAME to work, you’ll need to enter the record at INSPYRED, where your domain is currently pointing. Does that make sense?

Thanks for that heads up – I changed the DNS at my host – we’ll see what happens in a few hours. I’ll update soon…

Sounds great. I don’t see the CNAME just yet. Please keep me posted!

Wanted to let you know the CNAME is working. I’ll mention what I did so that anyone who searches the forums can have the information.

Make sure your NS (nameservers) are set-up correctly and pointing to your host (if your host is WordPress.com use this link… http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/#instructions-for-mapping-subdomains)

Log onto your host and go to the domain DNS records settigns. Add a new CNAME record pointing the CNAME to “yourblog.wordpress.com”

It will look something like this…
    Type: Name: Value:
    CNAME blog yourblog.wordpress.com

If that’s set-up correctly your new CNAME/subdomain will be blog.yourdomain.com.

Make sure that your nameservers are entered correctly or if your host has changed nameservers you update your records where you purchased your domain.
