How do I migrate my existing website to a wordpress site?

    I am currently with 1 & 1 for web domain and hosting. I have taken the wordpress certification classes at my community college and would like to move my existing website and domains to wordpress. I want email addresses, website hosting, website domain names (I have a few), and support. I’ll be getting the premium account the business account price isn’t in my budget. Can you direct me how to do that??

    Hi there. If you move to WordPress.com you’ll be hosted here. That means no FTP access, no custom themes and no plugins. We’re also not allowed to add any advertising here. You’ll ONLY be able to import your content (i.e. posts and pages) to your WordPress.com address. But you’ll need to select a theme that already exists here and customise it yourself.

    Chances are your WordPress classes were rather on the self-hosted version, called WordPress.ORG. There you have more control over your site, but you need to have a hosting account somewhere to use that. See here for more information: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    If you’re sure you want to be on WordPress.COM, to move your content, first create an XML export file of your content on your existing site. Then import that file to your WordPress.com blog. https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/view-all/

    You can use the domains you already own with your WordPress.com site. The Premium upgrade bundle includes the mapping of ONE domain. If you want to connect additional domains you will need to buy the domain mapping upgrade for each additional domain you want to be mapped to your WordPress.com site.
