How do I migrate my WordPress.com website without a plug in
-
Hi, I want to migrate me wordpress.com website to a new host, but the hosting site is telling me that I need to backup using a plugin to do this. I’m not really willing to pay for a business plan purely to transfer my site, and ideally don’t want to buy a pay per month transfer option either. Does anyone know how to do this?

Hi there,
The host you’re moving to wants you to do a full-site migration. That is not possible for sites hosted on WordPress.com.
To migrate your WordPress.com site somewhere else, you’ll need to do a content export at My Site ->Tools ->Export. That will create a download of your content, i.e. posts and pages only.
Once you have that, at your new host create a new install of the WordPress software. Once WordPress is installed on your server, log into WP-Admin, go to Tools ->Import, install the WordPress importer plugin, and use that to import the file you got from us. That will import your posts and pages, and will also transfer any attached media files from the media library on your WordPress.com site to the media library on the new site (the WordPress.com site will need to be set to public for this to work).
Let me know if you have any questions about this.
