how do i move an existing post into a newly created category

i have written a few posts and now i have decided that i want to create categories and move some existing posts into the new categories (gee whiz … how is this a difficult thing?)

To create new categories, start here:
https://hugslinger.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=categoryOnce you have your categories, uou can update a post’s categories any time by opening up the post in edit mode and changing the categories.
If you want to update a lot of posts at once, the easiest thing to do it to go to your list of posts (I’ve included a direct link below for convenience).

you have answered some other question than the one i asked … i have written a paragraph and puplished it on the main page but i want it to be in a sub-set (category) accessible from the main page … oh forget it … i just feel like i am getting the huge runaround and getting nothing done … i am not about the appearance of writing but thanks for the widgets anyway … i will find a site where they care about my ability to write and not about my ability to change my appearance at whim

Hi Sam,
I know it sounds like Maureen may have been telling you to do something different, but you really do change the categories that any one post is assigned to by editing the post and adding categories to it (when you are editing the post, there is a section on the far right of your screen where you can add or remove categories).

i am not, nor have i ever, asked how to add or remove categories … can ypu please read the question i wrote and answer it in a corresponding way … i have added categories to a post and would like to move a previous post into one of these categories … if you looked at my page you would see i found it quite easy to add categories to a post but am unable to find out how to move a post into an existing category of a different post (it seems like it would be basic housekeeping … i thought i had 2 posts here but now i see they are related and one of them belongs in a category of another … geez … again i ask you … how is this a difficult thing to do?

If you edit one of your existing posts, you’ll see that a list of the categories which you have created are present in the section which I mentioned. You can select the categories which you want that post to be assigned to there.

i tried following your instructions … your site is very complicated and i feel it is all about the appearance options than the writing … i can’ even seem to get in to edit my posts anymore … and i certainly can’t get to this place you are talking about where on the far right is the answer to my question … it should not be this difficult to figure out … yes i am a girl and i am left handed but that can’t be that unusual

i defy you to even see the categories on my site … i assure you i created them just as you suggested but they do not appear and they do not have any substance because i still can’t figure out how to put existing posts into catergories i created after i wrote the post … if you would kindly visit my site and see if you can see the categories .. then let me know how you did that …

Hello! The theme you’re using, Ryu, only displays Tags on individual posts. The categories still get included in our Reader tags, but they will not appear on your individual posts.
You can see the tags “Announcement” and “Panache” listed under the author (Theme Buster) on this post on the demo Ryu site, but you do not see the categories “Books” or “Writing”:

You can still use these categories to create Category Pages though, if that’s what you’re trying to do. And as I mentioned, they’ll still be used to categorize your posts in our Reader.
