How do I move my blue host site back to wordpress?
-
Hello,
I started a wordpress.com site back in 2012. Last year, I started self-hosting on blue host and pointed my wordpress.com domain there. It’s not working out for me. I’d like to move everything back to wordpress.com.
How do I do that?

Howdy Melanie!
We have some steps for doing that outlined here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org
Basically, you’ll want to export and import your posts into WordPress.com:
Please do this before shutting down the hosting at your WordPress.org site as we’ll want to make sure the images transfer over correctly.
Once you’ve run the import, you can check the posts on your WordPress.com site here:

That way, you can make sure they’re all there.
Can you give that a try?

Hi Jeremey,
Thanks for your help. That all makes sense to me. However, the reason I’m switching from Blue Host is because every month it seems like my site is being infected with malware. To add a firewall and virus protection on top of what I’m already paying them is starting to get ridiculously pricey and they didn’t make it clear when I signed up and chatted with their support that they did not provide that service to their customers.
The malware is currently being cleaned from my site, but I would assume it’s probably best to wait for that process to be finished before importing any files back into wordpress.com, correct?

That really depends on how the malware got into your site. Was it from something you embedded in a post or page? If so, we’ll likely want to wait. However, if it was the result of a plugin, you should be fine (plugins aren’t available at WordPress.com so they wouldn’t come along with the export).

Okay. So what are the steps after importing the files? Do I just switch the name server back to wordpress.com?
-
Yep! Once the posts and pages are all setup, “Edit Domain” here and set the name servers back to WordPress.com:
https://thepoeticsproject.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
It actually looks like you’ve already done that, and your page is loaded correctly at WordPress.com.
The only issue I see is that some image files are still pointed back to the old source URL from your self-hosted site. Those should have been changed to the corresponding image on your WordPress.com site. For example, you’ll see a broken image here:

Could you take a look in your Media Library and let me know the image that is supposed to be in that top spot?
