how do I move my domain from wordpress.com to wordpress.org

    i purchased a domain with wordpress.com, not aware of the limited features it has.

    i wish to use a custom domain i bought, which apparently can only be used with wordpress.org.

    how do i move the $25 I spend on a Domain from wordpress.com to wordpress.org so I can then use my custom domain name? thanks

    The domain name you registered, can use with anything at all, all you have to do is edit the Custom DNS settings and point it at the web host of your choice. What software you use at that web host is also your choice, but for ease of use and flexibility, the wordpress.ORG software is hard to beat. The restrictions here do not apply to self-hosted wordpress.ORG installations. The following link explains about changing the DNS settings. If it has been less than 30 days, you can get a refund on the domain mapping upgrade you purchased here. Contact staff directly about that refund.

    BTW, wordpress.ORG is just the support and distribution site for the wordpress software. They do no host websites. You will have to go with the web host of your choice, but if you are thinking of using the wordpress software, there are some hosting recommendations from wordpress.ORG.
