How do I notify interested readers of a new blog posting?
-
I have a personal contact list of friend’s (email addresses) who want to be notified of new blog essays I post. How can they be notified automatically without my having to email an entry personally, one at a time, to each of them?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The easiest method would be to place the Follow Blog widget on your sidebar/footer:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
Then, they can signup to follow your site through email. Once they confirm their subscription, they’ll automatically receive new posts!

Thank you. Is there a way also of adding a few emails of friends who don’t know of the blog and haven’t signed up yet? I have a list of ten such people that I notify by email individually after a blog entry, using the email share button. Captiva is a pain!

You would need to have them visit your site to subscribe. Alternatively, you could type their email addresses into the widget and subscribe them if you know they want to subscribe. Just logout and load your blog. Once you subscribe them, they’ll get an email confirming their subscription. They’ll have to confirm by clicking that link in order to start receiving new posts.
