How do I notify WordPress that WordPress Search is not indexing my content?

  • Unknown's avatar

How do I notify WordPress that WordPress Search is not indexing my content? I just noticed that WordPress Search has none of my content in its search engine.

How is this to be remedied?

    Who do I notify?

  • It looks like your post got caught in an automated spam catching process. Please make sure that any links are not running afoul of our advertising rules:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/

But you should be fixed as far as reader/topic searches now.

    @jeremiahjames2013
All reasons for non-appearance of posts on Topics pages can be found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts

This is the HUGE block of irrelevant Catgories/Tags you applied to a single post (your latest one):
Filed under: Headlines, End Time Deception, Prophecy in the News, End Times, Bible Prophecy, Headlines, News, Commentary, Syria, Corporate Media, United States, Obama, Barack Obama, JESUS, Jesus Christ, Conspiracy theories, Pope, conspiracies, middle-east, End times deception, Christianity, USA, NWO, deception, Libya, Ukraine, earthquakes, United State, Vietnam War, Donald Trump, Chris Rosebrough, Fighting for the Faith, Pirate Christian Radio

As you have assigned a combined total that exceeds 15 Categories/Tags to your posts, you need to edit and delete. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/ After removal of the excess categories and/or tags note it may take several days for your posts to begin displaying there.

You are inadvertently spamdexing AKA tag spamming. And, you ought to be more concerned about your posts not appearing and being well ranked on Google and Bing SERPS (search results pages) than not appearing on the WordPress.com Topics pages because it’s search engines that send a significant flow of traffic to blogs and they can choose to bury your content where the sun don’t shine for tag spamming.

In addition to that you may want to read what Google’s position is on duplicate content.Search engine aim to deliver the most relevant and fresh content and the last thing they want is duplicate content appearing in search results. Google’s algorithm will detect duplication make your original post’s position in the SERPs sink like a stone and the duplicate content post will get tossed into the supplementary index where the sun don’t shine.

The rule of thumb is to assign the least, not the most, combined number of only relevant categories and tags that accurately describe the post content.

Thank you for your time and effort.

This is the HUGE block of irrelevant Catgories/Tags you applied to a single post (your latest one):

…and yet, every single item that was tagged appeared in the post.

“You are inadvertently spamdexing AKA tag spamming. “

“Spamming” is such a subjective word.

I AM very concerned about my how my posts appear in Google and Bing. They do quite well. Quite a large percentage of my traffic is from Google. They have always done quite well. In fact, my other blog was indexed for Google News for three years before I shut it down.

My posts appear very, very well on Google and Bing. Always have.

That is why this entire spamdexing is puzzling. The only place I’ve ever encountered any problems is WP Search. And I have to ask myself: which is more important, Google and the other Search Engines or WP?

I have always tagged what is in the post, not the least because when I do a search on my blog, I want the appropriate pieces to show up in the search. Many times, it’s the tagging which enables them to appear in the appropriate search. I’m not sure how substantial WP Search traffic is, but it would have to be substantial indeed to discard the one thing that makes my in-house searches work.

NOW, I want you to know that you wrote a magnificent help piece. Very informative and very well-written. Just because my experiences over the last 7 years with Google and Bing are different in no way invalidates the wonderful comment you wrote.

    Thank you.

I’m curious why you would post a duplicate content warning?!? I’m very familiar with Google duplicate content–at least as familiar as one can be according to what they publish. Again, why did you mention it?

I will check out the links you provided. SEO is changes so quickly, who can keep up on it?

Once more, thank you very very much for your helpful reply.

    Oh yes.

After reading your post, I will try the next few days tagging for WordPress, maybe 3 or 4 tags. I will compare traffic and see what the results are. After all, tagging takes time.

    Cutts videos are always helpful.

    Once again, thanks!

  • Oof,

Timethief is right. Given the number of tags/categories you are using, getting caught by the spammer is just one of two things that would have been keeping you out of the reader/topic searches.

You’ll need to follow TimeThief’s advice and get those tags/categories down below 15 on any past or future posts if you want them to show up in the searches.

Thanks for all of the input.

I think we are talking two different things here.

I am NOT talking about the reader/topic search.

My posts are appearing in the reader/topic search. Every day. Every single one of them. No problems.

I am referring to the WP Search engine that came online about a year ago; the WP Search that is driven by the Hounder program.

    It appears here: http://en.search.wordpress.com/

In the meantime, I have found an answer.

Upgrade to WP premium and I get the right to ask their support staff the question of “Who do I contact to ensure that my site is indexed in the WP Search?”

Once again, thanks to all for your input. I know it took time to stop and answer my questions. I am grateful.

    Thank you.

  • The short answer is that there isn’t really anything you can do. Or rather, you would do the same things that you would do in order to get good Google, Bing, etc results. http://en.search.wordpress.com/ is a project that is being actively worked on and improved. But it is an ongoing project.

As a sidenote, if your site was marked as spam and you were using 15+ tags/categories, I assure you that you would not have been showing up in the reader/topic-search.

    For example, this search:

    https://en.wordpress.com/tag/chris-rosebrough/

Shows no trace of this post:

    http://endtimesprophecyreport.wordpress.com/2014/05/28/end-times-prophecy-headlines-may-28-2014/

Because you are using more than 15 categories/tags on that post.
