How do I optimise photos in Picasa? (please)
-
I have downloaded Picasa, now how do I optimise my photos in it? The advice is to do this but now I have it I don’t know where to start. Please could someone give me step-by-step instructions? Here is where we are told to do this – but then we are left high and dry!

The image editing software is linked to in that support doc http://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/#image-editing-software
We do not provide Picassa support at WordPress.com and Picassa does not provide WordPress.com software support. I suggest you post to Picassa help or support and ask there for help. https://support.google.com/picasa/?hl=en

Thank you so very much again for your time and response. We discussed this before when I had problems. The trouble is I don’t know what I am supposed to optimise my photos to. I can see that I will have to ‘play around’ with it. May I just ask one more? Which of these should I do in order to cut the size (pixels) of my blog photos?
“Automatic: Preserves the original image quality
Normal: Balances quality and size
Maximum: Preserves fine detail for large file sizes
Minimum: Yields some quality loss for small file sizes
Custom: Lets you to select your own value”
Thanks, Barbara -

@RC & @TT
I have seen the 72 dpi many times
I have usually just scaled the pictures to the pixel count i.e. maybe 500 wide and have not adjusted the dpi but just left it and let Gimp figure it out – maybe crop a picture to 1250 wide then scale to 500 wide – then use some compression to save on the file size and help load time
Have I been skipping doing something important for picture quality?
At what point should the 72 dpi be picked?
I also sharpen pictures that have been scaled down using the Gimp Unsharpen function (like sharpen but seems to work a bit better and has a ton of settings that I don’t mess with) and that seems to make the picture “jump” a bit more and most of the time also helps the color
thanks

Thank you for this help. I didn’t see anything dpi (I don’t know what it stands for) so I reduced the pixels to 640 and it’s a much nicer size and still clear. It’s the main street one which is different size from the others.
