How do I password protect my whole website without making it private?
-
I would like to password protect my website, but not make it private, because not all of my viewers have a WordPress account. Please help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
That’s not possible. You can password protect posts and pages, but you cannot password protect the whole site. To change blog visibility to Private go to > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3. See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings

You’ll need to download a plugin. Only way I found. And like I said thanks for all your help. So please don’t get an attitude.

I have answered questions here for nearly 10 years and you are not in a position to question my attitude.
If you think that bloggers can install plugins on sites hosted by wordpress.COM you are mistaken. You are confusing wordpress.COM hosted blogs and wordpress.ORG installs on paid hosting.
There is no FTP access https://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/ and no blogger installed plugin capability on wordpress.COM hosted sites. That is not permitted here at WordPress.com for various security reasons. No upgrade changes that reality. https://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/
This guide will explain how to move your WordPress.com site to another hosting platform: Moving to a Self-Hosted WordPress Site
https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
(1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
(2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you move to self-hosting, and if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

I apologize for questioning your attitude. But I honestly have found a plugin to help me password protect my site. Thank you for your help. I understand that you have been answering questions for several years, and I appreciate the fact that you helped me.
