How do I pay for the subscription on this site?
-
I want to pay for our club’s site (greatercincinnatidecorativeartists.wordpress.com) but I cannot find how to do that. Pat Hull set it up and wants me to pay for the subscription out of our club’s treasury. I have access to change content on the site. Can you point me in the right direction?

Yous site Admin ( I presume, Pat Hull) should set up a Paypal donate button on the site as per this Paypal setup guide.
Then you can click on Donate and well, donate :-)

Pat Hull here, an admin for the GCDA website. I just created the “donate” button for PayPal. I’m having difficulty figuring out how to embed it in the GCDA WordPress site. I have questions about this. I sent a question about this via the “Help” section and am waiting. Can you assist me in a more timely manner?
Also, I don’t want our website in my name. I want it under the organization’s name. I have several members of GCDA as admins so that, should anything happen to me, the website isn’t frozen. How can we move the administrative privileges to the organization and away from individual names? -
Could you point me to your website / blog please?
The aforementioned Paypal setup link should assist you help add Paypal button to your blog.

I need more help. Can anyone call me??? [Private details redacted]
I created the “donate” button but am unable to add it to any page without it showing my personal email address, name and PayPal number. The PayPal information is confusing and I was told that WordPress should assist me with adding it to our site. PLEASE call me. GCDA needs to pay for our domain name etc ASAP.
Our website is http://www.gcdapainters.org.
Also, when I open the website, the landing page says “Apologies, but no entries were found.” I want this gone.
Help!!!

I’m afraid WordPress.com doesn’t offer phone support, but we’ll be happy to continue helping you here.
When you say the Paypal button shows your personal e-mail address, do you mean when people click the button? If so, it sounds like you have a personal, rather than a business PayPal account. If that’s the case, I recommend you create a business account for your organization. There isn’t a cost difference between a personal account and a standard pro account and it will keep your personal details out of the equation. https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/paypal-payments-standard
If the account you have was set up for your organization, but is still showing your personal info, here’s how you update to the business’s information. https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/helpcenter/helphub/article/?articleID=FAQ772&m (I had to login to paypal find this link, so if it doesn’t work for you let me know)
The reason your front page says “no entries were found” is because your site is set up to have blog posts on the front page and you don’t have any. To use WordPress more like a regular website you can choose one of your existing pages as your “home” page and then put your blog posts on a different page. Here’s how to do that. :http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
If you don’t want to use the blog for updates, you can assign the posts to a page and then leave that page off of your menu by creating a custom menu. Here’ are the instructions for that: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
I’ve given you a lot of information here, so I hope it’s not too overwhelming. If you like we can go step by step and knock one problem off the list at a time.

Thank you for your response. I’ll keep plugging away at it.

lizthefair,
Why do we need a Donate button on the GCDA website? No one is going to pay GCDA. We just need to pay for the domain name etc. After a PayPal business account is set up for GCDA, wouldn’t we just go onto the WordPress payment page and proceed as usual??

I’m so sorry! One of the first volunteers was showing you how to get a donate button on your site, and I just assumed that was what you were trying to do. I really apologize. I’ve re-read your questions and understand better now.
Here are the answers to the questions you are actually asking.
WordPress.com is set up to be connected to individuals rather than organizations, so you can have many administrators, but really only one owner. If you want the site to belong to the organization rather than any of the individuals, the best thing to do is set up an e-mail address for the organization (say (email visible only to moderators and staff) if you have your own domain, or (email visible only to moderators and staff) if you don’t). Once that’s set up, you can create a WordPress.com account that’s connected to the the new e-mail address and transfer ownership of the site to it: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-wordpress-com-user-or-account.
As for paying for the site are you trying to buy an upgrade package? If so, the easiest thing is to pay with a credit card. If your organization doesn’t have a credit card, that’s where the paypal stuff comes in. If you put the funds in paypal, or connect your organization’s checking account to your organization’s paypal account, you should be able to pay for the upgrade in the store just by following the step by step instructions.
So sorry about the wild goose chase! Does that make more sense?

gcdablogger and lizthefair,
My bad. I totally misinterpreted the opening line of this thread. Apologies.

Hi Can you help me I want to pay by credit card but it said something about zip code? www,2dogimaging.com If I go into domain names it shows 2dogimaging.com and also 2dogimaging.wordpress.com if I click on the last one would all the pages change over to that?
-
@canadianrootsuk–it looks like you’ve deleted your site, so I’m guessing you aren’t still experiencing this problem. If something else comes up, could you do us a favor and start your own thread? It’s easier for the volunteers, staff, and for you if each thread is dedicated to helping one person. Here’s the link you need to start a thread of your own: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

@gcdablogger thanks for your good humor in what I’m sure was a frustrating experience. Are you all set now?
staff-happychia it happens to all of us :)
-
Hi Pat (gcdablogger),
Right now, you’re the owner of the site and its upgrades. Only the upgrade owner can renew them — you can do that on your My Upgrades page here:
https://wordpress.com/my-upgrades/
If you’d like a different WordPress.com account to own those upgrades, please let me know and I can help move them to the right account.
Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with the site! :)
-
I need the organization, Greater Cincinnati Decorative Artists or GCDA to own this site. I started our site and added members of the organization as administrators, but I need the site to be under the ownership of GCDA. There is so much different information coming at me and the result is confusion. Setting up an email for the organization? Moving the blog to another account? Upgrading the site??? All I want to do is get this out from under my personal ownership and get the account paid before the October 30 deadline.
Note to “happiness engineers”: I am not happy. Not mad, just not happy.

Hi Pat,
I’m very sorry for the confusion! Let me step back a moment:
Websites and upgrades at WordPress.com are always owned by individual WordPress.com accounts. Right now, both the website itself and the upgrades for http://gcdapainters.org/ are owned by your WordPress.com account (with the username gcdablogger).
If you’d like the organization GCDA to own the site, I’d recommend having someone in the organization set up a separate WordPress.com account for the organization. The organization can then save the login details for the account (the username and password) so that they control it.
Once the organization has its own WordPress.com account, I can transfer ownership of the website and its upgrades to that account. That way, you won’t personally own the site, and the organization can log in to manage it and renew its upgrades (the ones expiring at the end of October).
Please let me know if you have any questions about that!
-
If someone else from the organization can set up a separate account, could I, myself, do that? The organization is nothing more than a club of women such as myself, most of an older age, and most with a minimum of computer skills expect for basic functions. I will still be doing the majority of updating and maintaining the site. So again, I don’t know who I can pass this next step off too. Can I create a different account for the organization, GCDA?
-
Hi Pat,
Sure thing! You’re welcome to create a new account for the organization. You can do that by signing out of WordPress.com and going to the signup page here:
https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1
That will allow you to set up the new account. Just let me know once that’s done, and let me know the new username you set up for that account, and I can transfer ownership of the site to that new account.
Then, you can give that account’s login details to the organization, and whoever needs to can use them to log in and renew the website’s upgrades. (Your account gcdablogger can still be an administrator on the website, which will allow you to keep updating and maintaining the site.)
-
Finally I think we’re getting somewhere with this! I will work on this today and then we can address the issue of submitting payment before our deadline arrives. Thank you.
