How do I permanently delete media files?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have followed instructions to permanently delete media files that I replaced with a series of edited versions having the same file name. They were edited versions of slideshows to describe the critical features of a native grass seed harvester where the last version is a currently published post

I was surprised to discover that search engines not only access my original deleted file, but give it priority over the one currently installed as a post.

    Click to access native-grass-seed-harvester.pdf

    Click to access native-grass-seed-harvester4.pdf

Both of the above files have been permanently deleted but are still accessible from wordpress.com.

Images are cached for faster page loading, it normally takes about 3 days for deleted images to be flushed from the cache, the staff can flush the images for you if it is important enough

Keep in mind that search engines will reference the old images for several months as they crawl your site and update their index

Thank you for your response auxclass.

    I shall practice being patient.

    You be welcome

PS – both those files return 404 not found for me – you also might be having a local caching issue with your browser or ISP

Just discovered that in a remote page of my website I also had a hyperlink to the old file in question.

Still need some patience but having a brain might also help.
