How do I prevent anyone from subscribing to my blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have this very personal blog of mine, whom I don’t want any absolute strangers to read.

There were a few undesired subscribers for that blog, who unsubscribed when I requested them too. But there is this one person who simply does not unsubscribe.
Is there any way I can get rid of that subscriber?

Also, when other WordPress users visit my blog, they will see a “Subscribe” option at the top.How do I get rid of that?
I just don’t want anyone to subscribe to my blog. Is there any way I can possibly prevent future subscriptions to my blog?

Also, if my blog is private, will subscribers receive the post emails? (Be it “allowed users” in private or casual WordPress users or people who are not in WordPress).

You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you’ll find help at the WordPress.org forums.

If you don’t understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.

If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It’ll help people to answer your question.

The reason I posted this was because I want to get rid of any subscribers to my blog and keep it absolutely private for about a couple of months.

If you typed a URL into a box when you started this thread then do be aware that only Staff and the support bot can see it. Volunteers answering support questions cannot see it. There is no way to delete subscribers to a wordpress.COM free hosted blog set to “public” unless they choose to unsubscribe you are stuck with them.

My blog is never set to public; it’s always being switched between “search engines blocked” and “private”.

    “Search engines blocked” IS public.

Now, without knowing what theme you have, it’s impossible for us to tell you how to get rid of the icon. We don’t know if it’s RSS subscription or email subscription.

We have gone round this circle before with this member. Click the link I posted and you will see what I mean.

Yes, I had posted about that before elsewhere. But now, I want to prevent any future subscriptions.

My theme is Coraline, if that helps. So, how do I get rid of the “Subscribe” icon on the top of my blog which appears when anyone visits my blog?

Also, the subscriber I want to remove is an email subscriber.

Regardless of the theme, you can’t get rid of that icon. It’s part of the admin toolbar, and that belongs to the WordPress.com user visiting your blog.

To remove a subscriber (email or WP.com user), contact staff on Monday:

You cannot remove the email subscriber. You can only pull the subscription widget out of the sidebar like raincoaster said in the other thread I posted the link to.

If you are referring to the word “Subscribe” on the top gray colored navigation bar then it cannot be removed and any wordpress.com member who is logged in and visits your blog can click it and subscribe.

Thank you. I forgot we could ask Staff to remove subscribers for us. :)

Since there is no “subscribe” icon at the top of Coraline by default, it has to be a widget that you have installed in the sidebar. Go to appearance widgets and remove that widget.

If I export my blog and save it to my computer, and then after creating a new blog, if I import it back again, will it not remove the other subscriber? I mean, the subscriber to my original blog won’t see the posts that I post to the new one, right?

I don’t know, is this a foolproof method?

  • Unknown's avatar

That is correct. It will not import subscribers.
