How do I prevent my domain name from auto-renewing?

    A domain name that I ordered through wordpress.com last year is about to auto-renew at 12/21/2014. I do not want to auto-renew. Instead, I want to let the account expire and simply keep the free wordpress blog site that the purchased domain maps to. The email instructions I received said to disable the automatic renewal in my WordPress dashboard. However, that option is not available on my computer using either Firefox or Chrome. On the other hand, the WordPress dashboard under My Upgrades say to click the Cancel button. In this case, there’s no Cancel button on my screen to click! If I click on the Contact Support link on the WordPress Dashboard, I just get sent to a help menu screen (which doesn’t help my situation). Please advise.

    You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchased the domain mapping upgrade to access the blog’s dashboard and cancel at > Store > My Upgrades

    WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers.

    Note: It takes from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received.

    To disable autorenew, provided you are logged in under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchased the upgrades go to > Store > My Upgrades and click the “disable auto-renew” link.

    Important note: The cancellation link sent to the email address on the account is only valid for 24 hours.

    Please keep in mind that cancelling (or not renewing) a domain means that you give up ownership of that domain name completely. There’s no guarantee that you will be able to register that domain again in the future, either here at WordPress.com or with another registrar.     I signed into my WordPress blog under the account that I registered for the domain upgrade and was able to disable the auto-renewal.

    I’m sorry but we cannot provide accurate answers to any blogger who fails to provide the exact URL starting with http:// for the exact blog they refer to and the exact URL for any domain they refer to so we can verify the hosting. Please do that now.

    I’m glad you got this sorted out! I can confirm that you disabled the auto renewal for the domain weluvfattyacids.com, so it’s set to expire on January 20, 2015.
