How do I pronounce Akismet?

I have been on WP a year and attended more than a few meetings of bloggers in that time and the consensus is and you’ve said it. But no penalties are accrued for mispronunciation, since it’s blogging.

Thanks raincoaster–but penalties are accrued when speaking in front of or to a bunch of people about this (very valuable) plugin. Or at least, one sounds like an idiot rather than just thinking like one. :-)

If one is blogging at WordPress.com and refers to plugins, one risks being referred to WordPress.org, which would in my estimation be a bigger deal.
Besides, if you’re the one who has the audience, you’re by definition the one who defines how it’s pronounced, yes?

Or one can just consider it a plugin that ended up being permanently plugged in, since historically, that’s about what happened.
The audience–yes, but it doesn’t speak to one’s credibility to have been using WordPress since its inception (as a download) and not know the pronounciation of a fundamental term. Is my take.

Didn’t Matt’s niece or someone simular name the product?
I pronounce it Ah-kis-met myself.

FWIW From the Akismet FAQs
Who’s behind this?
Akismet is the brainchild of Matt Mullenweg of WordPress and his merry band of Automattic rascal hackers. The name can be blamed on Matt’s sister, Charleen.
What does the name mean?
Akismet is a contraction of Automattic Kismet. Our favorite definition of kismet is “Kismet (principle), the magnetic attractive force that actualizes the playing out of karma; often used in the positive sense.”I pronounce Akismet with a short a sound as in the word “at”.
