How do I properly add an affiliate link?
-
This question concerns two affiliate links I wish to insert in today’s post at my blog.
On the link form, the affiliate link is too long for the link box. I tried using a url shortener, but because this is an affiliate link, it’s construction is a little different and the system does not recognize it as legitimate. I tried just inserting the link provided (in this case, by Amazon), but when the blog is published, the full link is shown, rather that the title of the book. Thanks for your help.

Amazon.com and other select affiliate links are now permitted on free hosted WordPress.com blogs, as long as they are not the primary content of the site in question.
WordPress.com allows bloggers to insert their own text affiliate links within post and page content only to their own products in Amazon or other third-party affiliate programs.
Image affiliate links in posts and pages and any affiliate links in widget areas, are still considered to be advertising and are not allowed on WordPress.com blogs.
This is the guide for creating links in posts and pages: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/
This is the general link model:
Highlighted anchor text here
This is the visual result – it’s not actually linked here in the forum.
Highlighted anchor text here1. Enter the anchor text you want to link to first.
2. Then use your mouse to highlight that anchor text. (If you don’t highlight the anchor text the chain icon will remain grayed out and not be useable.)
3. Next click the chain icon in the editor and proceed to create the link.

timethief, I followed your instructions, but I must’ve missed something. The anchor text was created in my post and became a link, but the link did not take me where it should’ve. Instead, I got this message:
“Not Found
Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.”What did I do wrong?
Thanks…

It was the link given by Amazon. I thought I generated it in text mode, but maybe not. I’ll start over there and see if that was the problem. I really do appreciate the guidance…

timethief,
Unfotunately, that still didn’t get me there. However, I discovered that simply copying and pasting the anchor link generated by Amazon (contrary to their instructions), generates the correct link into my text. So, problem solved. Again, thank you so much for your assistance.
