How do I publicise new posts by email to people in my address book without using

Hi, I do not want to publicise using my Facebook account, but want to use my e-mail address book to choose who gets notifications of updates on my blog, how do I set this up please?

If you want to let your friends know you’ve started a site, you can email them with the link to your site and add the Follow Blog widget so they can sign up for email notifications. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
Alternatively, http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/#invite-people-to-follow-your-blog but I think the first option is more personal and less problematic.
To be clear, if your site is public (it is) anyone can sign up to receive notifications of new posts that you publish. If you’d rather have your posts available only to a select audience, then you will want to consider changing its privacy settings to Private and inviting your friends to view your site as a Viewer. They will have to sign up for a WordPress.com account in order to view your Private site. See here:
