How do I publicize my posts on Google so that they are "public"?

  • Unknown's avatar

After I added Google+ as a connection, my posts on Google show up as private, only seen by my circles. On the WP page where I set up my sharing connections, there’s a question mark next to Google and it tells me that these posts will be private unless I designate them as public when I connect. I don’t understand what that means. I’ve never seen an option for that, even when I tried to set up a new connection with Google.

    Hi there,

When you first set up the Publicize connection with Google, you will see a screen asking you to accept the connection between WordPress.com and Google. That screen will look something like this: https://cloudup.com/cvBDxJQ4HZl

You’ll see that by default, it’s set up to share your posts to your circles. If you want your posts to be public, you can click the “x” next to “Your circles.”

Then, if you click in that same box, a list of options will pop up like this: https://cloudup.com/c9HRBwyetIA

You can select “Public” from that list. Then, click the Accept button at the bottom of the screen. That will make all of your posts shared with the public on Google+.

Please let me know if I can provide any further help with this. :)

Thanks Rachel. I’d seen this before but it wasn’t that obvious to me I was supposed to do what you’ve outlined. Now I have “public” marked accordingly. We’ll see what happens. :)

    Hi Joe,

I’m glad you were able to make that change. :) We’re always working on improving our partnerships with services like Google+, so I’ll pass along this feedback to our team to see if we can make that step a bit more obvious.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else!
