How do I put a widget in a footer area?

  I have set up a text widget with a hyperlink in it. This works in the sidebar, but I cannot seem to move it to a footer area. How do I do this please?

  Provided the code is not a restricted code http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/ that cannot be used on free hosted WordPress.com blogs like JavaScript or an iframe code, all you do is go here > Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets and locate the footer area of your choice. Then drag and drop a text widget into it, click the text widget to open it and paste the code into it.

  now fixed thanks. you have to open the footer 1st, not merely locate it.
