How do I rebuild my site using wordpress and host gator? Where do I start?

A friend told me “……do a rebuild of the site using WordPress using a host like HostGator. This not only will make it easier for you to maintain, but will give you more control over the SEO part of the website. This isn’t really as bad as it sounds, it only takes a short time to get the hosting up and running, install wordpress and add a nice theme and BOOM, you are done.”

This is Greek to me. Do i Create a website in word press and then use host gator for my host? I just built a basic site in homestead. Is working with word press not ideal for beginners? Any help on this would be much appreciated

Your friend is a little confuzzled: I have sites using both WordPress.org (ie independently hosted, like your Hostgator site would be) and WordPress.com, and WordPress.com has better SEO than any comparable WP.org install. So in terms of SEO you are far better off here.

He’s also being disingenuous about he amount of work a cold install is.

WordPress.com is a turnkey blogging solution where the security and SEO are excellent, but you can’t fiddle with themes and functions as much.

You’re welcome. There’s no right or wrong answer. What you need from the site will dictate whether you go .org or .com route.
