How do I recover images from my exported site file?
-
Hello. I did a full export of my website before I moved it from WordPress. I have opened a new temporary wordpress site to upload the website’s backup and be able to transfer my most important blog posts to my new site. However, the images from the blog posts are not visible. They simply say ‘This image has an empty alt attribute: its file name is …’
How do I recover these images? Or are they gone for good??
Thanks

Hi there,
What is the URL of the site you exported from? And is that site still online?
A WordPress export file doesn’t contain any media files. It only contains references to where those files are stored in the site’s media library.
When you then import that file to another WordPress site, the WordPress importer fetches the files themselves from the source site’s library, and transfers them directly to the new site’s library. As you can probably tell, the source site needs to be online during this process for the image transfer to happen.
