How do I recover lost content connected with Go Daddy page?

  • Unknown's avatar

I connected my blog to Go Daddy in 2012 and accidentally let the subscription expire. I continued to write on worpdress and it linked to theheatherchronicles.com. They told me the content on their end is lost and I’d have to retrieve through WordPress. I’m desperate to find 2 years of writing. Please help me.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi! Was theheatherchronicles.com a WordPress.COM blog with a custom domain, or was it a WordPress.ORG (self-hosted) blog on Godaddy’s hosting?

As in, did you or someone else install WordPress on Godaddy’s servers for you, or did you continue to use WordPress.com to blog?

We need to know this before we troubleshoot further!

I have no idea. I’ll have to ask the girl that helped me, as I’m worthless at this. I logged in to http://www.theheatherchronicles.com/wp-admin every time. I always typed on a wordpress page.

OK. From what you’ve told us, it sounds like you used a WordPress.ORG self-hosted WordPress installation on Godaddy (or some other) server.

Yes, it would be helpful to ask the person who helped you set it up. Please refer her to this thread for any questions she may have. :)

Hope you get this sorted out soon!

What’s the difference, though? In one case, all hope is lost and in another, it’s not? Is there a way to search for my posts? How could I have been saving on wordpress but there is no evidence of any of the posts? Sorry for all the questions. I’m a bit frantic about all this.

No problem at all. I understand that this must be pretty scary!

There is actually a pretty big difference. If you were using a self-hosted WordPress.ORG blog, then WordPress.COM would have no access to your posts. They would be on Godaddy’s (or some other host’s) servers. That means that recovering them would be up to them.

If you were using a WordPress.COM blog with a custom domain though, it’s much simpler: your domain has just expired, and your blog will still be intact, somewhere on WordPress.com (and a staff member will thus be able to find it for you).

Here is a quick rundown of the differences between WordPress.COM and .ORG –

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

So, if you were self-hosting on Godaddy, then it’s between your technical consultant and the hosting provider to figure out how you can recover your files. If you were hosting on WordPress.com though, a staff member here will be able to help you.

You should contact the person who setup the blog for you asap and ask her how she had set it up! Good luck!

Hi again, the girl that helped me said that I have a wordpress.com page and that I only purchased my domain name through Go Daddy, not hosting.

In this case, can you help retrieve my lost posts?

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, that’s terrific news! :) If your blog was hosted on WordPress.com, then your content is definitely safe, and it’s just your domain that has expired. Think of it this way: you currently don’t know how to find your way home, but your house, with all your stuff in it, is safe and sound!

OK, so does your blog show up in this list?

    https://wordpress.com/sites

If not, you may not be logged into the correct WordPress.com account to see it.

Thankfully, help is on the way! I’m tagging this thread for staff to have a look. Please make sure that you subscribe to it via the sidebar link or by ticking the Notify me of followup posts via e-mail checkbox below, so you are notified of all future replies to this thread.

Good luck! I hope this is sorted out very soon. :)

Yes, but it falls under “Linked blogs”.

The first blog under MY BLOGS, The Heather Chronicles (theheatherchronicles.wordpress.com) was the old one. I used to blog there and then really just wanted that one linked to the Go Daddy page so that theheatherchronicles.com was the address.

The Broad Abroad blog was something I played around with, but never ended up using really.

    Now I’m concerned again. :(

Thank you for explaining all of this on a child level haha. I really appreciate that and the positive outlook.

No problem at all. :) Here’s hoping staff can get to the bottom of this soon!

It looks like you have the site http://theheatherchronicles.wordpress.com/ and then a Jetpack linked site http://theheatherchronicles.com/, which is no longer active.

Unfortunately, any content on theheatherchronicles.com was not saved here on WordPress.com. It looks like you moved to a hosting plan with GoDaddy in 2012. If you were using a backup service like VaultPress, you can retrieve your posts from them.

I’m sad to say there’s no way for us to retrieve those posts. :(

Do let me know if there’s anything I can help with.
