How do I recover my blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

I can log into my WordPress.com account but I cannot get into the /wp-admin section of my blog and it is telling me that my email address isn’t on file so I can’t recover my password. Please help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

At the bottom of you site is this:

    Proudly powered by WordPress

That means you are asking for help in the wrong forums: That link will take you to WordPress.org where they have forums specifically for their platform.

Our answers here on WordPress.com won’t apply because our software is different.

Is it possible to switch from .org to .com or do I have to start a new blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

You can certainly switch to wp.com.

You’ll have to get into your wp.org site to export your content.
You’ll set up a blog on wp.com, then import your content.

You already own the domain name, so you can buy an upgrade to map the wp.org name to your wp.com site.

    Hope that helps!

However looking at your site you would need to remove some links and advertising or your site would be suspended – you can’t sell ads or have affiliate links

I got into it :). Using phpMyAdmin. Thanks for all the help. WordPress.com seems to be a lot more user friendly for sharing content. I will look into it that. Thanks for the links.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ohhh. No ads or affiliate links? But you still have to pay for hosting, etc? Sounds like communism to me. :) haha

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thanks Mike,
I forgot to mention all of that about the adverts and affiliates and TOS here on wp.com.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @sotgpm,

No, you are not paying for hosting! You would be hosted here for free but if you want a url without the wordpress.com ending, you pay for domain mapping.

Communism? No it’s capitalism: wp.com needs to pay its bills/make $$$

  • Unknown's avatar

So if I were to switch, how would I make money off my website that I spend money on? Is there a return or is .com for hobbyists? I could probably find the answer by reading all the links, but if you have the time…I would appreciate you saving me time! :)

  • Unknown's avatar

    @sotgpm,

EVERY host has Terms of Service – WordPress.COM is no exception. I have seen sites suspended from other hosts for violation of the TOS – my ISP for example is also a host – they were not paying attention to the sites they were hosting, that lasted until one of the sites made the front page of the papers for being a site that reviewed escorts – my ISP just zipped up the files, suspended the site and mailed the disks to the address of record for the web site –

It’s WordPress.COM’s sandbox so they set the rules, good old capitalism and free market, nobody is forced to host here, I am here and I don’t find the TOS limits a problem at all.

  • Unknown's avatar

I understand the TOS. I was just asking how someone who hosts on .com is supposed to see a return from their site? Can you sell your own products? We make the majority of our money from selling advertising/affiliate links.

I guess what I am asking is…if I went with .com, I am sure there are plenty of benefits (or nobody would use it), how can I make money to cover the costs of the time & effort put into providing a “product.” (in this case it would be information for people to consume, not a physical product)

    What’s wrong with communism?

This isn’t a political thread. Let’s not make the moderators have to work harder than they already do! Haha

As perverted by the former Soviet Union not so good, but Preppers need something to be afraid of

Sweden, Norway and many other Euro countries are doing fine with socialist things things like Universal Health care seem to be doing fine – and @RC how do you like your easy to use health care system? One of my friends is a transplant from Canada and he really likes the Health Care system – then there is Granny down here that show up at rallies with signs saying “keep the Gommermit out of my Social Securty”

  • Unknown's avatar

Ha, Granny deserves to die on the lawn of a hospital that refused her because she didn’t give enough money to their favoured insurance racketeers.

I pay $26 a month, and I’ve had cancer. My premiums during the year I was on chemo? $22 a month.

    What’s wrong with communism?

“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
    George Orwell

Communism or not, maybe that’s just the nature of (some?) human beings…

I broke my ankle in Madrid some years ago, and ended up in a public hospital. Everyone was amazed to see the American in their emergency ward, except for the “real” doctors (who were all away on holiday for Easter Week). The ER was dirty, the toilets didn’t work, and because I was a curiosity to practice English with they wouldn’t let my family in to see me. But the bill was low enough to pay with cash. I did return to the U.S. for surgery, and except for one Nurse Ratched, everyone was kind, competent (sort of), and tried to be helpful. Socialized medicine? yes and no. Apparently in Spain, it is socialized, but done with a tiered system, where there are “more equal” parts—my daughter was living there at the time and that was the same hospital some of her well connected friends used. Just unlucky that the ambulance brought me to the “less equal” part…

Any rate, we are off-topic here…
