How do I recover my blog posts/website?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am in the process of trying to change the domain name for my blog but I have a major problem. I have a blog/website with wordpress.com but needed to switch it over to wordpress.org. I downloaded wordpress.org and entered in my current blog domain name and info. I now have my domain with wordpress.org however none of my post/website is there. When I go to my actual website it’s as if I am starting from the beginning but my Bluehost dashboard still shows my stats for my blog when it was with wordpress.com. Is there any way for me to retrieve my original website? Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

  • Hi there,

Can you tell us what is the URL of your original site on WordPress.com? I see that aside from your Bluehost site at goldnluna.com, you also have https://agoldenhour.wordpress.com/ here at WordPress.com.

However, I don’t see any content on that site either, and it appears from our activity logs that this site has never really been used since it was set up 10 years ago. You are referring to a different site under a different URL instead?

    Hi,

The original site URL is goldnluna.com. I have never used the agoldenhour.wordpress.com URL.

If you go to the activity log for goldnluna.com, click on Stats, and for Traffic change it to years. You will see a list of blog post under “Posts and Pages”. These are the blog posts I am trying to recover. They are listed but I cannot access them.

Can you clarify what the WordPress.com site was? It sounds like you had some trouble with the export:
    https://wordpress.com/support/export/

    Did you use those steps?

  • Also, WordPress.org is just free software. It’s great free software & what we use here! But if you just installed your own, DIY copy, you’ll need to set it up, move in your content, etc.

    I hope this helps:

Thank you. That does help some. I did not use those steps to export. Is it too late to try this if I am not able to access the 20 blog posts I had? Would it possibly help to remove the WordPress.org software and start back over?

    The site was Goldnluna.com

  • Do you know where those 20 posts were previously hosted? It sounds like they were not here, and you may need to contact the service provider you were using.
