How do I rectify a mistake I made with the website name?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am a novice at all this, so please be patient with my nebbishness!
I have a page “Longmont Writers Club” that I created a few days ago, with the help of a friend.
However — By mistake I added “co” to the end of the “title” and I don’t want it there.
I want: http://www.longmontwritersclub.wordpress.com — but if I log into that I am told there is no content.
The content is on: http://www.longmontwritersclubco.wordpress.com – it’s all in there!
How do I get rid of the “co”?
How do I get all the content onto the website without the “co”?
It’s all the same club, there is only one Longmont Writers Club!
Is this possible, or have I screwed up entirely?
My friend has given up on this problem!

You can export the content out of one blog and import it into another one. See the guide here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-between-wordpress-com-blogs

  • Hi Angela,

There is already a blog with that URL: http://longmontwritersclub.wordpress.com/

Perhaps someone with your organization set it up? You can leave a comment on that blog asking if the owner would be willing to transfer the URL to you, but if you don’t get a response, you’ll need to choose a similar URL that is available, such as longmontwritersclubblog.wordpress.com

You can change the URL in this way:
    Changing a Blog Address

You can also register any custom domain that you like:
    Add a Domain

Let me know if you have further questions!

i am the originator of both blogs (don’t ask!) – but only want the one that does not have “co” in the URL. I give myself permission to transfer the first blog name to the second one. But how to make the transfer?
Should I just delete the first one (it’s empty ) and then rename the second one?
    How to do this?

@ajewordsmith – DON’T delete anything – all your options go away and deleted blog names are never reused

For the staff to transfer the content you will need to log in as the owner / account of ww.longmontwritersclub.wordpress.com to have content moved into or out of it. It sounds like you own that blog with a different account.

And I won’t ask about the two accounts as it really does not matter to the staff.

But both account names that are involved need to ask for the changes, that is to prevent someone from transferring content where it is not wanted

  • @captnmike is correct — if you’d like to have the http://longmontwritersclub.wordpress.com/ blog transferred to your current user account, please log out as ajewordsmith, log into the old user account and then reply here and request that I transfer it.

However, if you want the content currently on http://longmontwritersclubco.wordpress.com/ to appear on http://longmontwritersclub.wordpress.com/ , you’ll need to export it from the incorrect site:
    Export

And import it into the site with the URL you want:
    Import

You can either just do that now with the two blogs in their separate user accounts, or you can move them to the same user account and then do it.
