how do I reduce redundant categories?

In my “Categories” inventory I have multiple (a lot) of “Business”. I don’t know how that happened. Its been bugging me for quite awhile. Can you help me reconcile that so I have that category just once?

    Hi Brian,

I checked your categories and it seems that you have been manually re-adding duplicate categories, either by typing them in each time, or perhaps using a third-party app for creating your blog posts that might have caused this duplication.

The best way to apply the right category and avoid creating a duplicate category is to “check” the appropriate existing category when creating a new post, rather than click on “Add New Category”.

I see the redundancy issue that you have described with multiple categories, not just with Business.

In terms of the clean-up, it will require some manual work, especially since you have quite a few posts.

We don’t currently have an automated solution for this, so you would probably need to go through the list of your categories and delete all the redundant ones (this will not delete the posts, but will remove that category from them), then go through all the posts to re-apply the categories as relevant (you can do it in bulk – select multiple posts, then press Quick Edit to apply a category to all of those posts).
