How do I refund the premium that renewed itself yesterday?

    I spoke yesterday with a member of WordPress customer support, I am attempting to cancel the WordPress premium that automatically renewed itself yesterday. I was told to wait until today, when the payment went through, and then click the “Cancel and Refund” button from Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades. I have located this page, but the button says only ‘Cancel’ and notes that “While your upgrade was purchased too long ago for this product’s 30 day refund policy, canceling now will ensure that it won’t be automatically renewed in the future. Please note that renewals are not refundable.”

    This does not seem to agree with the statements of the Customer Support member I chatted with, who said I could be refunded for the period of August 29th 2014 – August 29th 2015. I do not wish to pay $99 for Premium Support for the coming year. (I do wish to retain the $18/year domain name, just not the premium that comes with it).

    Here are some of the statements made by the support member (I can provide the whole conversation if needed):

    “The site with this domain – darwinssoldiers.com – also has the Premium upgrade which includes a domain, custom design, more space, no ads, and the ability to upload audio and video. Do you want that upgrade? I can remove it if you just want the domain only.”

    “I can see the purchase has just started to go through for this upgrade so there are a couple of options here. I can’t refund it until it has gone through. But you can also refund the purchase from your Dashboard at Store > My Upgrades. There will be a ‘Cancel and Refund’ link.”

    “If you like, we can wait until tomorrow and if you want me to refund the upgrade, then I can do that. It will probably be refundable tomorrow. Otherwise you can check again yourself at Store > My Upgrades – https://darwinssoldiers.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades – and refund it yourself.”

    How should I proceed in order to get my refund?

    Hi there,

    That’s very strange that the correct link didn’t become available to you. In any case, I can take care of it for you, but let me verify really quickly: Do you want me to get rid of the domain name for you as well? If I do, it will be returned to the domain registrar and will eventually be released back to the general public where anyone can pick it up.

    No, I would like to keep the domain name. I only want a refund for the premium assets. I think the domain name itself is only $18/year or something in that range, and I’m fine with paying that.

    Hiya,

    Your domain is actually $26 with private registration. I went ahead and cancelled the Premium bundle and refunded you the $73 ($99 – $26 = $73). If you change your mind about the domain, let me know ASAP and I’ll take care of it!
