How do I remove a domain?

How do I remove a domain name from “My Domains”? I have renewed it with GoDaddy and just redesigned my site to be self hosted (by Godaddy). The domain seems to be flipping back and forth between sites every 20 mins. I believe the solution is to remove the domain from my wordpress.com account. Any ideas???

Could you confirm which domain or domains you are having trouble with? I can remove the domain mapping subscription for you which will solve the problem, but I don’t want to “fix” the wrong one.

    Thanks!

    surfwithamigas.com THANK YOU!!!

    Done!

You might get some wonky behavior for a day or so because DNS changes take awhile to go live everywhere, but after that it will be smooth sailing.

OMG. THANK YOU. I’ve spent three days trying to figure this out.

Always happy to help. Best wishes for your new site.

Sorry – but I’m having issues again. I pointed the domain to the website. But… now when I try to go to the site (surfwithamigas.com) it gives me an error: “surfwithamigas.wordpress.com doesn’t exist” – Seems to be having the same problem. Any idea what’s causing it???

The domain is back to trying to point to the wordpress.com site. I hid the old wordpress site.

Just checked it again and it seems to be working. Should I assume this is the wonky behavior you mentioned?

I believe so. The site is working correctly for me, your name servers are set correctly and there is no remaining connection between that URL and your old site. If it’s still being weird tomorrow will you let me know?

The other custom domain you have on that site http://surfwithhollybeck.com/ still points to the WordPress.com site, but it looks like that is the set up you want. Making the old site private is making it inaccessible to people who visit surfwithhollybeck.com, so you may not want to keep the site private for too long.

It’s flipping back to the error message again. :(

I really think this is a “wait it out” situation, but if you send me a screenshot of the error page I’ll take a look. Here are instructions on taking a screenshot if you need them.

    Making a screenshot

You might also try checking the site on other computers (or even your phone). If you are only seeing the error on the one computer you can be even more sure that most, if not all other visitors are seeing your new site.

Ok – so it seems to flip back and forth every 15-20 minutes.
It is flipping between the new site and the old site (which is hidden – thus the error message). This is the same problem I’ve been having for two days – even before you deleted the domain from the account.

I have checked it on my phone and in another browser (clearing history/cache) & am having the same issues.

Just to make sure I understand, are you seeing that page when you go to surfwithamigas.com or when you go to surfwithamigas.wordpress.com?

  • Unknown's avatar

surfwithamigas.com is redirecting to surfwithamigas.wordpress.com – Hoping it’s just a “wait it out” issue. But…it hasn’t happened for bit. Hoping for no more issues!

    surfwithamigas.com is redirecting to surfwithamigas.wordpress.com

That is very strange because you never owned surfwithamigas.wordpress.com. You had surfwithamigas.com mapped to surfwithhollybeck.wordpress.com.

You might check your domain settings with GoDaddy and make sure you don’t have a site redirect set up on that end.
