How do I remove a "shadow" blog that was created when I changed name of blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

I changed the name of my blog and now two versions show on my dashboard. I read the support info about changing names and followed the protocol. I also purchased the Site Redirect and filled in the new URL information so users of the old URL wouldn’t get lost in the shuffle. Then I entered a post about the name change. And that’s when things got weird.

Old blog name – Yesterday’s Threads Today
New blog name – Threading Through History

Threading Through History is designated as primary on my dashboard and is the “good” one with all of the posts and widgets. However, when I enter my username and password, I am directed to a “shadow” blog that has the new name but contains only the post about changing names. Nothing else – none of the widgets, none of the other posts.

I started to delete the unwanted blog, but since it’s coming up with the new blog name, and I do not want to erase the “good” blog, I stopped and thought it was time to ask for help and up my Happiness factor.

    Thanks, Susan

  • Hi Susan,

Right now, you have two blogs:

    1. http://threadingthroughtime.wordpress.com/ (the “correct” blog)
    2. yesterdaysthreadstoday.wordpress.com which automatically redirects to http://threadingthroughtime.wordpress.com/

You can’t delete the old one because it has a redirect on it, but the old one isn’t visible to anybody but you, since it redirects to the new one.

You just have to make sure to go the Dashboard of the correct blog: https://threadingthroughtime.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

Also, please go to Users->Personal Settings here and change the “primary blog” to the new one:
    https://threadingthroughtime.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=grofiles-user-settings

Lower down on that same screen, you can update the “website” field to http://threadingthroughtime.wordpress.com/ , as well.

Does this clear things up? Let me know if there’s still anything that’s not right. :)
