How do I remove AI assistant?
-
Hi, I want to remove AI assistant from the writer.

Here is where it appears in the editor.
I find this really distracting when I’m writing and it discourages me to use this platform for writing. I’ve tried to have a look for how to remove this feature or hide it or uninstall the plugin that its connected to but I can’t seem to find an option.
I’m using the ads version of wordpress so I’m not sure if this feature can be removed with the subscription option.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It looks like the AI Assistant in the Page/Post Editor’s Paragraph block toolbar is baked into the toolbar itself and so can’t be turned off. This wouldn’t be dependent on your current free or an upgraded site.
Some options:
Try using the Top Toolbar option under Preferences in the sidebar (Click the three dots on the top right corner). This will take all toolbars from floating on top of what you are writing and put it at the top of your screen instead.
You might want to try “Distraction Free” mode from that same sidebar menu https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/wordpress-editor-for-writers-bloggers/#distraction-free-mode which completely removes the toolbars and other distractions.
You might try writing in the Preformatted block or Verse block, where the Assistant doesn’t appear, and then transform the block to a Paragraph block by clicking on the block’s icon on the left side of the toolbar which will then give you transform options.

Alternatively, try the Classic Block. https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/wordpress-editor-for-writers-bloggers/#using-the-classic-block

Is there no option to remove this? You can tell whoever made this is so pleased with themselves that they put it right front and centre in the editor but for a lot of people that write it just feels like a slap in the face. Like this feels intensely tone deaf.

Hi @ajbattle,

Is most of the issue that it’s popping up in the toolbar when you’re writing, or is it showing up in other ways?
We don’t currently have a way to remove buttons from the toolbar, but I can pass along an enhancement request to allow that to be “turned off” per site.
Still, I will absolutely agree with @2020testjj’s suggestion to stick the toolbar to the top of the page. It gets everything out of front-and-center so you can just type. Even without the assistant, I personally find it’s easier to focus, and distraction-free mode could help more if needed.
