Hi there,
Please note that the footer credit is required to be displayed according to our terms of service:
http://en.wordpress.com/tos/Note that even sites hosted through our VIP program, such as the TED blog, display a credit to WordPress.com in the footer.
(See the bottom of http://blog.ted.com/ for an example)Let me know if you have any additional questions about this.

Are there any themes that don’t require this? I was going to purchase adornedbylindsaymarie.com, will that make a difference? I just don’t think it looks professional with that at the bottom. My old wordpress site with the “Chateau” theme allowed me to remove it, but I don’t want to go with the Chateau theme again.
Thanks! -
You can remove the theme part (Just keep the Blog at WordPress.com), but you would need the WordPress.com Premium upgrade because you will need to edit CSS. This is apart of the Custom Design upgrade. Take a look at that and see if it would be right for you.

Hi Grace,
Does every theme require WordPress to be at the footer? I switched themes and my new theme is by Automatic, not wordpress. Can I remove it now or does it not matter which theme I use with wordpress?
