How do i remove sharing buttons?
-
In past experiences on WordPress, it was easy to remove sharing buttons. I’d just go into ‘Marketing’ under ‘Tools,’ or more recently the ‘Sharing’ Settings, and it could be done pretty quickly.
Now, however, the Sharing Settings page just gives examples of what they look like (duh) and a link to ‘Go to the site editor’ – which, yes, does go to the site editor, but I can’t, for the life of me, find a way to actually futz with the sharing buttons at all.
I want them totally gone, but can’t figure it out. Am I missing something obvious? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Following up: I downloaded the Jetpacks app for my phone and was able to get rid of the share/reblog/like/whatever buttons using that, but… man… not ideal. There’s GOT to be a way to do it on the web version, right?

Thanks for sharing. I’ve just downloaded the Jetpack app, but I’m not sure how you deleted it on JP? If you could explain how that would be wonderful, thank you!

Found it! From the Jetpack app (I’m using iOS version), go to your site, may need to click on More.. to see more options, under Traffic, go to Social.
At the bottom, there’s a Sharing Button, Manage option. In Manage, you can disable the “Show Like button” option.
Also Enable the “Edit Sharing Buttons” (you have to enable editing to remove them), when you enable editing, a drop down pops up that shows all the different sharing buttons that are available, disable any/all of the sharing buttons, then disable the Editing Sharing Buttons option, now all sharing buttons should be removed. (this is really bad UI, Clicking a toggle to view a drop down of options? very bad UI, it should just be a button to get to the list of sharing buttons)
It’s really bad that WP and Jetpack force you to use the phone app to do this. I should be able to administer my site ON MY SITE, not on the phone app. Very poor decision there. But, I was able to delete the buttons, then delete the app from my phone, so it worked!

Absolutely agree with grenbug. Sharing buttons have suddenly appeared on my site without me consciously setting them to appear and I cannot remove them: they’re horrible, messy, ugly and just get in the way.
What is really absolutely incomprehensible from any sort of programming perspective is that the desktop editor does not contain all the capabilities of the app. I mean really, this is beyond stupid: good writing requires a proper keyboard and a proper sized screen. To start with the most obvious point, one cannot touch-type on a miniscule phone screen, and autocomplete is an absolute disaster. Since I really struggle to use apps, I will clearly have to put up with an ugly site until this is corrected, but not impressed.
