How do I remove the 'author' and 'date' on all my posts
-
I have found various answers on the forums but they all involve editing core or template pages and I’m just using WordPress from the web so haven’t got it installed. Can anyone advise what to do in my position ?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That is for a WordPress.ORG install, you are at WordPress.COM
For more on the difference: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
for cityboygez.wordpress.com. – not all themes show the Author.
However, to hide the Author & Date would require the Custom Design (CSS) Upgrade at $ 30.- / year – the staff and some other volunteers will help you with the CSS code so you will not need to learn CSS programming

That’s great thank you. Can I also upgrade to get rid of ads without doing the .org install ?
-
Yes you can. There is a separate package for that http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/ad-free/
-
So, last question (sorry !), I already have a domain with my old website, but I want to move the new WP site over to it, get rid of ads and get rid of the author/date posting information. Would I be able to do all this by upgrading to the Premium Service ? I don’t really want to do the .org install if at all possible.

You can purchase a NO-Ads upgrade, a domain mapping upgrade and a custom design upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/category/upgrades/
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. To register a WordPress.com blog see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
NOTE: WordPress.com does not provide an email service for domains. See here for adding email http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/

Hi, I already have a blog set up on cityboygez.wordpress.com. On looking at the Premium bundle – it looks like I have Advanced Customisation (which presumably would let me take author and date off my posts), no ads, and custom domain. BUT you say I need domain mapping – will this not work for me then ? Sorry for all questions . . .
-
Hi there,
As the premium bundle includes a custom design upgrade you need to click this link and start a thread in the CSS Forum to get the help you need with it > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postformAs the premium bundle also includes a custom domain and as .wordpress.com blogs are on sub-domains cityboygez.wordpress.com you need to do as follows.
Note: auxclass will help you with your domain set up.

aargh, i’m so sorry – i don’t understand. will i be able to do what I need to do (custom CSS, no ads, and move or forward the blog to my own domain) with a premium bundle ?
-
-
Okay, so just to clarify – on the premium bundle which offers a custom domain – that means I will be able to forward or move (or redirect ?) cityboygez.wordpress.com over to cityboy.biz (which I already own ?).
And on a secondary issue – could you tell me how I put an automatic excerpt on my archive posts ? When I perform a search, the posts appear as excerpts which is what I’d like for all old posts if possible ?
Thank you so much for all this help – i’m incredibly impressed with the level of support here.
-
Yes you can redirect your current WordPress address to your own domain name. The bundles page says “Get a free domain with a bundle purchase” so you may also get an additional domain.
Regarding the second question you can use the more tag to split a post and display only a part of it on the home page and other archive pages.
Else you can also enter a hand crafted excerpt for each post.
-
Okay, great – looks like the Premium bundles is the way to go for me. Regarding excerpts – I have nearly 200 posts which I’d like to make into excerpts and can’t face the idea of doing a more tag, or hand-crafted excerpt for each of them. I noticed that on performing a search – the posts show up as excerpts automatically – so wondered if I could implement that for when viewing them in archives ?
-
You cannot do that in WordPress.com unless the theme author decides to do it.
Technically if you look at the structure of a WordPress theme there is a separate file which handles search results. This file has been coded to display excerpts (in this theme). All other files just look for the “more” tag and display the content based on it.
So if you want to display excerpts for all 200 posts without editing them you have to download this theme and use it on a self hosted WP.org blog so that you can edit it any way you want.
Another solution is to add the “more” tag through an automation. First export all these posts from Tools > Export. Once you have the XML file you need to use an XML parser to find all content in the
<content:encoded></content:encoded>tags and add<!--more-->after 150 characters.
