How do I remove the blog posts from my Adventure Theme Home page?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have the Adventure theme and everything is great, except for the Home Page. I can’t get rid of the blog posts under the ‘About Me’ box. It is supposed to be a static page with the About Me on. How do I get rid of the blog posts – i only want them to show in the ‘Blog’ section. I know it can be done – a friend of mine has managed with his free wordpress site (timflanaganauthor.com). No blogs on his Home Page. As far as we can see, there are no set up changes between his blog and mine. Please help.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

    First, I noticed you have submitted forum threads that look pretty similar. To keep our conversation organized, I’m going to respond to your questions here and close the other requests. I’ll be happy to answer any additional questions in this thread!

    The Adventure theme automatically includes a “News” section on the home page. You can see this section by navigating to Appearance -> Customize -> Theme -> “Home News Category”. It shows by default.

    The only way to remove that section would be to use the following CSS:

    .home-news {
    display: none;
    }

    In order to use that custom CSS, you’ll need to purchase the Custom Design upgrade shown here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

    You can definitely try out the Custom Design upgrade first before springing for the purchase. You should see an option to try it free for two weeks here in your Store:

    https://mjsummersbooks.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php

    Would you like to give that a try?

    Thanks Jeremey – a friend of mine is also using the Adventure theme and he hasnt added any ccs upgrade but has somehow managed to avoid having the blog posts on the home page. Is there another way around it? If i purchased the CCS upgrade, what would happen if i decided to change to a different theme at a later stage? Would I then need to do another upgrade for that theme?

    Hi!

    Nope – the Custom Design upgrade is good for all themes. So, if you make the $30 purchase, you can customize any theme.

    However, before we do that, could you point me to your friend’s website? I want to make sure I’m not missing something here. From what I’ve found, if you’re using the Home Page template for your front page, it automatically displays a news category.

    Hi Jeremey
    His address is timflanaganauthor.com
    Ive checked with him – he didnt upgrade the CSS.
    Good to hear the upgrade is portable to other themes. Let me know what you find out when you’ve looked at Tim’s website.
    Thanks again

    Hi!

    Interesting – I’ve taken a pretty close look at this, and I’m really not sure how Tim was able to remove that section without CSS. I’m unable to recreate that on a test site despite my best efforts!

    I think Tim may have set something up before a change was made to the theme that made this impossible. I’ve followed up with our theme developers just to make sure. I’ll let you know as soon as I know more!

    For now, I went ahead and added a trial Custom Design upgrade to your account. You should be able to remove the area using CSS:

    .home-news {
    display: none;
    }

    Just place that under Appearance -> Customize -> CSS.

    I’ll definitely get back with you before the trial is over so we can decide the best option going forward.

    Thanks for having a look Jeremey. Ive added that CSS code into my site and it looks good. Will be interested to see what the theme developers say. Need to have a read about CSS now – i found this article – http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/06/21/css-intro/ are there any others you would recommend?

    We have a handful of resources here:

    I would definitely recommend checking out those. I’ll keep you posted regarding the theme!

    Hi!

    I just wanted to update you and let you know that the Adventure theme should be fixed now! I know you’ve moved on to Yumblog, but I didn’t want to leave you hanging.
