That is for your gravatar as is stated here https://wordpress.com/themes/independent-publisher/ under Gravatar Logo.
A Gravatar account like http://en.gravatar.com/becomingselfworthy and a wordpress.COM account https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/becomingselfworthy are one in the same. See http://en.gravatar.com/support/existing-account/
Make sure you have enabled third party cookies http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
Note that gravatars/blavatars (favicons) do not show up instantly after uploading them. Gravatar images are cached and frequently take several days to display after a change.
Dashboard → Settings → General
Do not keep uploading!
Do not forget to select an image rating.See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/blavatars/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/gravatars/For best practices for uploading gravatars, avatars and blavatars scroll down to below the video here: http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2010/01/24/gravatar-avatar-blavatar/
To enable Gravatar display and hovercard display on your blog go to > Settings > Discussion and scroll way done the page to “Avatars”.

If you insist that you want to remove the gravatar logo from display then there is no free means of doing that.

OT/ I notice that you’ve added a Contact form to your second and third posts on your site.
Every post and page already has a comment form enabled by default where site visitors can leave you comments and they will appear on your site after you approve them, if you’ve enabled comment moderation (recommended).
A Contact form does not generate public comments. Anything submitted via that form will appear in your site’s WP Admin Dashboard>Feedback>Feedback and you will also receive an email notice to the ADMIN email on record or to the email address you enter as a part of creating the contact form. If you reply to that email, your email will, of course, be visible to the recipient.
Let us know if you have any questions about that.

@becomingselfworthy,
The “circle emblem” on your home page displays your Gravatar on the Independent Publisher Theme.
In order to get rid of the Gravatar, you’ll have to edit the CSS. To do this you’ll have to purchase the Premium Plan.
Once you’ve upgraded, use this support doc to get to the CSS Customizer.
Paste this code into the CSS Customizer to hide the Gravatar:
img .site-logo-image .no-grav { display: none; }I hope this fixes you up! Have a wonderful day!

@jsase5
In reference to our earlier conversations, if you aim to please, then please go to https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization and answer threads in that CSS forum. Threads there have Staff support but Staff are away and your help will be appreciated by blogger who do have that upgrade. -

@jsase
No apology required but as you can see when there are multiple Volunteers answering in the same thread the blogger who posted the question can become confused and fail to locate the answer.CSS editing skills are required to be on Staff. I don’t have any or want any. Well, that’s not totally true. I do know some CSS but I never let on that I do. I answer the most repetitious questions that are posted. Staff members focus on the threads tagged with modlook for their attention and on answering CSS Forum questions.

Yes, I can totally see how the blogger who posted the question can get confused and overwhelmed!
I’ll make sure I answer questions in the appropriate Forum.
