How do I remove the "comment count" from the "Front Page" of the Zuki theme?
-
I am using the new Zuki theme on http://reflectionsintheword.org/.
How do I remove the “comment count” for each post/article from showing up on the “Front Page” (and elsewhere) of the webpage?
Comment counts do not appear on the Zuki demo page.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Some of the detailing in the demo site for Zuki is not showing up on my site. For example,
- the vertical separation between the widget areas is different (larger than in the demo)

In order to do that, you will need to close the comment section on each post. You can disable comments for individual posts via the Discussion module on the Edit Post page here:
https://reflectionsintheword.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=10395&action=edit
Alternatively, you can set the global comment setting for all new posts via the instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/
Whenever comments are open on a post, the number of comments will be displayed (the theme demo posts are all closed to comments). Alternatively, if you would like, you can remove the comment text using CSS. However, that would require the CSS upgrade shown here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/
You can start a free two week trial if you would like from your Store page here:

Can you let me know what portion of your home page you’re referring to and what portion of the Zuki theme you’re comparing to?

Thanks for answering. The “comments count” issue has been cleared up.
In reply to your request for clarification regarding the spacing:
The specific difference is the space/distance (the vertical separation) between the “full width top” widget area and the “post content 1” widget area (http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/zuki/support/).
The distance is clearly much shorter (which I prefer) in the Zuki demo page than on my page. I have tried everything, but cannot get it to shrink.
I suspect there is a small CSS or HTML difference between the Zuki demo and the actual Zuki theme for WP users.

Thanks for clarifying regarding the difference in spacing! It looks like this is due to the difference in featured image size for your posts in the featured slider. If you scroll through to the post titled “Thoughts on God… from ‘a Softer Voice’”, you’ll notice that the spacing matches the theme demo. I suspect because this image is a bit taller than it is wide, it’s throwing off the spacing for the others. Can you try uploading an image for that post that’s closer to the recommended 1200 x 600-800 size ratio?

Thanks again. You have been VERY helpful. I will try to make the changes you recommended in due time.

I tried it, but it did not work :(
I resized the featured image to 1200×800 and uploaded the new smaller image…. but the gap remains the same. What happened??

Hi,
It looks like the post “Thoughts on God… from ‘a Softer Voice'” is still setting the image height in the slider to be much higher than the rest of the posts.
Here’s an example: https://cloudup.com/ilC_u4fm9Ye
In that picture, the featured image for the post is “pushing down” the space before the commentary section. Since the other images are shorter, they don’t cover the same gap, which leaves a bit white space. You can see this by shuffling through the slideshow. You’ll notice that some of the featured images come down farther and close off the gap.
You can also see this in action when using a CSS rule to standardize the height of the images. The extra space is removed as shown here:
https://cloudup.com/cHYollxqEHM (you’ll notice that looks different than how it appears now)
The solution would be to make sure that every image in your post is 1200px x 800px prior to uploading. Can you change out the featured image on Thoughts on God…from ‘a Softer Voice'” to match these dimensions?

I changed all the featured images to not exceed the required 1200×800 max but it still did not work.
Then I removed a post that had a 660×485 featured image. After that last change it SEEMS things are now in the designed alignment. Apparently the theme is more sensitive to aspect ratio than absolute height.
However, after all that (and considering there are >300 more “unadjusted posts), is it possible that the CSS/HTML/PHP of the theme could be modified so that it was more accommodating???
For example, could the “CSS rule to standardize the height [or the aspect ratio] of the images” that you had mentioned simply be added to the theme, natively?
Nevertheless, THANK YOU very, very much for your help. I know you spent a lot of time and effort helping me with this small problem, and I am grateful for your hard work.

Hi!
It looks like your images are now appearing more consistent. I believe you’re correct – the theme is more sensitive to aspect ratio than absolute height.
I’ll definitely make the suggestion that the theme automatically crop images to a specified height/width so that the slider looks great regardless of the size of the featured image. The main downside to this is that often times, the theme might crop the image in such a way that part of the image is missing. So, it’s a bit of a trade-off. I’ll definitely let you know what feedback I receive regarding the idea though!

Oh not a problem at all! I’m happy we were able to get this sorted out. I’ll keep you posted.

I experimented with this theme for a bit on a test site, and I think this is actually less of an issue than we previously thought. I believe the issue only happens when the featured image uploaded is less than the desired size (1200 x 800) in one of the aspects (height or width). So, for example, an image size of 1100×900 or 1300×700 would cause an issue. However, even if the aspect ratio is pretty far off (1200 x 2265 for instance), the image is chopped down to 1200 x 800.
So, going forward, we’ll just need to make sure each image is at least 1200 px wide and 800 px tall. Then, the theme should do the rest of the work. Can you give that a try?
