How do I remove the comment forms from static pages

  • Unknown's avatar

I am using the Sela free theme on a both wordpress.org and a wordpress.com site. I do not want to receive comments on all the site pages, just on the blog posts, so I’d like to remove the comment form from the bottom of those pages. Is this possible? Also, can you control which fields display in the comment form?

    Thanks,
    The goddess

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Sure thing! You can remove the comment form by disabling comments on specific posts or pages in the editor.

When you edit the page, you can go to the Discussion section and uncheck the box “Allow Comments” to disable comments on that page. (In the new WordPress.com editor, that Discussion section is under “Advanced Settings.”)

You can also disable comments on multiple pages at once by bulk editing the pages:

    1. Go to the Pages > All Pages screen in your site’s WP Admin dashboard.
    2. Select the pages you would like to modify or check the box next to “Title” column at the top to select all pages on that screen.
    3. Select Edit from the Bulk Actions drop down menu.
    4. Click the Apply button.
    5. Change the option for Comments to Do not allow.
    6. Click the Update button.

Also, can you control which fields display in the comment form?

The same fields will always display in the comment form, but you can control which fields are required when someone is leaving a comment on your site. You can head to Settings > Discussion in your site’s WP Admin dashboard to control that. Under “Other comment settings” you can choose what information is required when someone leaves a comment.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

    1) Thank you. I just needed to scroll further down to see these check boxes on each page. All fixed!

    2) Do you mean these fields on the Discussion form:

Comment author must fill out name and e-mail

Users must be registered and logged in to comment

    ?

    Hi Aggie,

Yep! Those are the ones. The first setting, “Comment author must fill out name and e-mail,” will require that commenters fill out their name and email. If you don’t want to require that information, you can uncheck that box.

The second setting, “Users must be registered and logged in to comment,” will require that commenters register and log in before commenting (so a bit stricter than the requirement to just leave a name and email address).

If there’s anything more I can do to help with that, please let me know.
