How do I removed the various widget-y things at the bottom?

I’m using the McKinley theme for a writing portfolio and I don’t want the website to look like a blog. I want it to look like a website.
Therefore, I don’t want this:

And I don’t want this:

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me where I go to remove these features?
Thank you!

How do I removed the various widget-y things at the bottom?
All themes here will display a default display that appears to contain a sample set of widgets in the sidebar and/or sidebar when you have not yet added any of your own. Go to Appearance > Widgets and add the widgets you desire and configure them and the default display will disappear. If you don’t want any at all place a Text widget without any content at the top of the sidebars/footers.

All WordPress blogs by default have comments open on all Pages and Posts. You can enable and disable comments on free hosted WordPress.com blogs on this page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/You can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules
