How do I remover "blogroll" and "meta" widgets from front page?

  • Unknown's avatar

I cannot remove either widget from the right sidebar of my front page.

Don’t want readers to be bothered by these widgets.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you choose the widgets you want to be displayed and activate theme here > Appearance > Widgets then your choices override the default sidebar display that looks as if it contains widgets but doesn’t.

Note also that you place an empty text widget in the sidebar and doing that will eliminate all widgets in the sidebar.

Hi there, and thank you SO much for your help!

You’re welcome and best wishes with your blog. :)

Just a moment, let me see if I in fact have widgets activated.

I assumed I did because on the left side of the page appear a category list and an archive list. I assumed these were widgets which were automatically added when I switched themes earlier today.

But let me check and see if I can see what you’re talking about. Back in a moment. And thank you!

Hmmm, I’m not able to post a screen shot here, am I?

  • Unknown's avatar

Because it appears that there are in fact widgets which were automatically activated when I changed themes, probably because they were activated in the previous theme.

I have a primary sidebar (with all my own widgets, all activated it appears) and a secondary sidebar (again with a widget of my own, not activated) and footer widget areas, all of which are empty.

None of these show either the “meta” widget or “blogroll” widget. I don’t see them, so can’t figure out how to remove them.

Anyone else out there have any ideas to help?

Why not try switch back temporarily to the old theme to get rid of the widgets there and then switch back to Oxygen again.

Okay, I have fixed the problem with a work-around.

Following your advice, I’ve added multiple text widgets to the “Secondary Sidebar” area.

I’ve had to enter many many “returns” in each text box, to make the box “filled” with a blank space.

And I’ve had to add separate text widgets and adjust each one with a separate “visibility” setting, to cover the home page, the about page, category pages, post pages, and media pages.

It’s a major pain to have to do all that, but it worked.

Thank you for your help, and I hope this will help others using the Oxygen theme.
