how do I renew domain mapping without buying a plan?

I am trying to map my domain but it won’t let me without buying a premium plan. I write a blog because I enjoy writing not because I want to monetize a website. Paying 99$ just because I want to map is, frankly speaking, extremely ridiculous and extortive in nature.

Domain Mapping is only available with WordPress.com plans. However, the Premium plan is not required. All paid WordPress.com plans include Domain Mapping, including the less expensive Personal plan:
