how do I renew our subscription?

  • Unknown's avatar

I need to renew a subscription for our wordpress. org account

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Unknown's avatar

oldmanwatershedpriorities.org – is hosted (domain mapped) on WordPress.COM & registered here – so it is really a WordPress.COM account

At Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades >> is where to renew the upgrades

You need to be logged in as the EXACT account / user that owns an upgrade to renew it – is there another account you might have used to purchase the upgrade originally?

I will also flag this for the staff in case you continue to have problems

    Hi headwatersaction,

It looks like the domain oldmanwatershedpriorities.org was indeed registered with WordPress.com, and the site is hosted here.

The domain upgrade was purchased by a different WordPress.com user. If this was you, you will need to log out of your headwatersaction account and then log into the other account to access the upgrade for renewal purposes.

If that account is owned by someone else, they will either need to renew the domain or they can post here in this thread requesting that we transfer the upgrade to your account.

Because the domain has already expired, there is a very short window of time in which we can renew the domain without incurring a late fee, so time is of the essence here. See the following page for more information:

    Domain Expiration

The domain for oldmanwatershedpriorities.org was purchased by ‘watermattersab’. I am one of the usernames attached (watermatterscs). I have tried to renew the domain online through My Upgrades and am not able to (the option is not made available) maybe due to the fact that it expired 9 days ago.

I request that the upgrade be transferred to ‘headwatersaction’ so that we could get it done ASAP. Thanks!

All renewals and requests for transfers must be made by THE EXACT ACCOUNT / USER THAT OWNS THE UPGRADE –

being an Admin on a blog is not good enough

    Hi watermatterscs,

I would need to have this request come directly from the user that owns the upgrade and registered the domain. Only that person can authorize transferring it to a new user.

If that person is no longer available, you may need to wait for the domain to go through the full expiration/redemption process and (hopefully) be released to the public. There are no guarantees that it will be released, however, so it would be best to try to get in touch with the domain upgrade owner.

    Hi,

I know that the purchaser of the account is: watermattersab, but do not know the password. My staffer who set up the account last year left her position; I am the Exec Director. I have not been able to contact the past staffer.

If I let this domain expire, could I somehow set up the same blog site with a new domain? My concern is that if it expires, we may lose the content and design work done on the site. It is important for us to keep that going. Is this possible? We need the site up and running by the end of this week so setting up a new domain name is just fine, as long as we don’t lose the content already on the site.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

    Hi watermatterscs,

Please note that the expiration of the domain will not mean the loss of any content – all of that resides on the underlying WordPress.com account, and will be safe.

In the event that you cannot reach the domain upgrade owner, you can indeed register a different domain and make that your primary domain for the site. However, your site’s visitors will have no way of knowing that the domain has changed.

If you cannot reach the owner of the domain, you may not have much choice in the matter, since we can’t turn over the domain to someone else without the owner’s consent, but it’s worth considering.

@jackiedana – is there a way for the staff to generate an email to the domain owner?

I ask because of the number of “I did not receive a renewal email” posts in the help forum make it seem that the notices are either getting lost or not being sent – that would still respect the privacy of the domain owner but would insure that a notice was sent.

@auxclass, we try to reach out to all users with expiring domains to make sure they know the situation. It’s possible that in this case the owner of the domain either chose not to renew the domain, or was not reachable.

In this case, I have also sent the site owner/domain owner a separate email requesting their assistance, as well as a link to this thread. Please note that they are under no obligation to comply with my request, but perhaps they will do so. I will let you know.

    Thanks jackiedana

I do understand that the upgrade owner is not required to do anything – I keep thinking there should be a bit better way to do the upgrades on a multi-user site that is ongoing and where people change over time

@auxclass, I agree with you. Domains are a tricky thing, though. We do what we can, but ultimately domains are registered to a single individual, and whether it’s through us or another registrar, only that person is going to be able to renew them.

yes there are internet anti-fraud requirements that require domain name renewals and transfers to be done in a very specific way and that they can’t be short cut and that many hosts change the name servers from the original host site to their own “this needs to be renewed page” as a way of getting the attention of the domain name owner
