How do I Replace / Update an existing Media file ?

How do I Replace or Update an existing Media File : PDF and Doc that are linked on several pages and in external newsletter. But we’ve found an error and need to update the file without breaking the links on all the pages. As adding a new media file date stamps the URL folder names and adds a postfix number to the file with the same name.

  • Hi @tdsuser, you’re right; there’s no way to update a media file without generating a new link for it.

I don’t have a fix for this instance, but I can help prevent it going forward: create a single page for the PDF. You can add a download link there, and even embed the PDF if you want to.

Then, update all available links to point to that page, rather than to the individual file itself. If you ever need to update the PDF again, you just update the page and you’re set.

Thank you for confirming. I had come to the conclusion that it couldn’t be done in the same way as own hosted WordPress, which allows Updates.
Thank you for suggesting the work around.
