How do I reply to my users comments?
-
When people make comments on my posts, how do I reply to them? By not writing my own message though.

I just looked myself, and don’t find anything, but I know I responded to a comment thread similar to this the other day.
You can reply just as anyone would, and begin the comment with @commentername so that they know you are responding to them. Then, if you want, you can adjust the date/time on your comment (edit it) to move it up underneath their comment.
You can also open their comment for edit and then add you reply to the end of their comment and format your response in bold or italics to differentiate it.

Oh yea! Is that how people do that? They usually put bold under their name and then write their reply. Thanks thesacredpath!

The bold or italic is suggested if you edit the reader’s comment and put your reply below what they wrote. You do not have to do that if you make your own separate comment as a reply.

@rain, I’m thinking that when I reply to things from now on that I will add appropriate tags to it so that it is more likely to show up in searches. Timethief used to go through all the threads on a regular basis and add appropriate tags so that people could find them later, but no one has been doing that.
-
Absolutely, tsp. I’ve been doing that for about a month.
Now if they’d only add a search box to the Tags page… I know that you can add the tag at the end of the tag page address bar and search that way, but that’s not particularly user-friendly.

You guys have more time than I do. I prefer to complain. Eventually I complain somewhere really embarrassing and then WP fixes things. I can’t understand why I’m not more popular with those guys!
-
I so seldom even look at the tags pages, but yes, a search function would be nice. What would be useful would be to be able to select a tag, and then put in a separate search string.
-
And by the way Jennifer, thanks for doing the tag work.
Rain, thanks for taking on the job of complaining.

@rain-aren’t you the one that suggested searching on Google rather than using the borked forum search, and that *doesn’t* take time? Just sayin’ :-> The Tags page has been far more consistent than the forum search in returning relevant search results, but of course, that means untagged threads are overlooked.
The real hassle with Tag search is that it seems that you have to search independently for “commenting” and “comment” and “comments”.
No problem, tsp. Everyone has their own expertise. :)

Yes, I suggest searching on Google. It’s evident that the forum search is tag-based and equally evident that nobody is really bothering to tag anything. Perhaps tagging should be made mandatory, although looking at the tag usage patterns in the forum I’m not sure that would result in anything meaningful either. A keyword search is a much more efficient option, which is why I myself generally use Google.

Google searches take less time than trawling the forums reading threads and tagging them all appropriately in case future generations would like to find them. Definitely.
-
I’ll have to start using Google. It sounds like it is far more productive than the broken tag/search here.
