https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/cannot-change-tags-case/ is the top result on Google for: edit tags wordpress change case, but the page provides incorrect and outdated advice. Now you can go to the ‘Tags’ section under ‘Posts’ to change incorrect case or accents on a tag, but the page is ‘closed to new replies’ so I cannot provide the correction to this erroneous top Google result hosted by wordpress.com.

That’s really an error on Google’s part and not the fault of WordPress.com. Old stuff does tend to hang around there. Perhaps one day WordPress.com will delete really old stuff from the forums if only to free up a server or two. There must be millions of pages of outdated stuff on G$$gle if you type in enough matching keywords. Best to stay in WordPress.com and look at their support docs.

If the philosophy of the website is to keep old information, they should allow correcting it, otherwise they are permanently upholding errors, regardless of whether Google recommends the bad 13-year-old advice or not. I can’t stand the philosophy and want to know how to contact them. They don’t have any system to contact them. Support links go here.

  • That’s a support forum question/answer, not a support document.

We don’t really have the infrastructure/personnel to constantly go back and edit 15 years of forum responses, but you’ll find that our support documentation at https://wordpress.com/support/ is always up to date.

Overall Google has control over what they display, but we do our best to structure our support documents in a way that should result in them being listed high on the index.
