how do i request a refund? I would love an actual contact email or phone number for someone at wordpress to contact about this.

Hi there. Refunds can be requested by going to Store > My Upgrades, and clicking the “Cancel and Refund” button underneath the applicable upgrade.
If you’d like to contact Support directly, you can do so by going to http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ and filling out the contact form. Since you’ve paid for an upgrade, you should see the option to send in a “Private” question after following the steps to see if the question is already answered in documentation.

I forgot to add, that refunds for most upgrades can be requested within 30 days, and refunds for domain names can be requested within 48 hours of purchase.
