How do I reset google autenticator?

I have had to use a backup code to get into my account as I kept getting the message that an invalid code had been entered. How do I reset google authenticator?

Hi there,
If your 2 step authentication has become out-of-synch, then you can try one of two things:
You can try removing WordPress.com from your Google Authenticator app and re-adding it (as long as you have sufficient codes) by following this process: http://en.support.wordpress.com/security/two-step-authentication/#moving-to-a-new-device
Or you can disable 2 Step Authentication entirely and then re-enable it again by following this process: http://en.support.wordpress.com/security/two-step-authentication/#disabling-two-step-authentication
The former is technically more safe for your account because at no point is it unprotected by 2FA, but if it doesn’t resolve your issue additional codes are used.

Many thanks, I may have tracked down the problem to a glitch in my phone’s time synchronisation. For some reason though set to BST (GMT+1) it was two hours slow. I have now set it to Eastern European time which makes it show correctly. If that doesn’t work I will try getting it to synch through ntp instead of the phone network. Only if these fail will I carry out the procedures you suggest.

Yes, that would definitely do the same. I once visited another timezone and didn’t have my phone set to update automatically. I got locked out entirely. That should fix it for you!
