how do i reverse the order of comments? i.e. the newest comment first.

currently the comments on a post are displayed in chronological order downwards (newest comments last.) is it possible to switch the order such that the newest comments are displayed first?

You don’t. On a wordpress.com blog we do not have this option. If you have a wordpress.org there is a plugin but we do not have plugins at wordpress.com

Also if you do have a wordpress.org blog then you are in the wrong forum. We run on different software here. The correct forum for self-hosting bloggers is http://wordpress.org/support/
