How do I scale a picture to display correctly on the background of my blog?

I am having issues working out how to make my background image display properly.
I have found plugins to auto resize the image because currently it only displays a very zoomed in version of the image. Plugins are not seemingly an option for the online site, and I have no idea what size to scale the picture to to make it fit the screen properly.
I have tried to play with it, but can’t get it to display the whole image as in the thumbnail in the media library, as the entire background.
Thank you in advance for your help.

You’re seeing “a very zoomed in version” because the image is too large. when it comes to computers, browsers etc, the size that matters is the pixel size. Your image is 4770px wide while most users have screens that are 1200px wide or lower. So you need to use an image editing application or an online tool to scale it down to a more reasonable size.
But unfortunately there’s no correct size that would make the image display “properly”, because screen resolutions and aspect ratios vary.
One solution would be to scale down the image to around 1600px, and be content with the fact that visitors with lower resolution screens will see less of it. Another solution (if you are skilled in Photoshop or other image editing applications) would be to scale it down to around 1200px, edit it so that it fades to a uniform color around all four sides, and set the same color as a background color to the blog.
