How do I send a CNAME to gmail?

I have been in email hell for four days. Short story: I need to get a CNAME sent to gmail in order to verify ownership of my domain, so I can get a code to reset my password for (email visible only to moderators and staff). I’ve learned to do it with GoDaddy, and have been trying to do it there, until the fourth support person I talked to there said, OH, you need to go to WordPress. I’m at WordPress. help!

I had a long conversation back and forth with a WordPress tech support person in a hidden topic. I actually started feeling hopeful. He entered the CNAME into my DNS records in a format that WordPress accepted and then provided me the link to click that would send it back to Google. It didn’t go to Google. It went back to my site.
He told me it worked for him, and that I should clear out my cache and cookies. I did. The link STILL didn’t work. So he said it SHOULD work. And that’s where I’m left. I still can’t get access to my domain email at Google, because I still can’t verify my domain name. I keep coming back and clicking on that same link, thinking maybe something has cleared out….but nada. I’ve sent repeated email follow-ups in the private correspondence, but no response from WordPress. Disappointed, to say the least.

    Hi there,

I’m showing a CNAME for susanjcobb.com for googleb1cdb2d3fe6b2fe3 which points towards google.com. Is that the one which Google provided to you? If so, it is currently set up and should be good to go.

You should be able to log in to your account at Google and check that your account is verified.

Yes, tech support got back with me on Saturday and advised me to clean out my cache yet one more time. it worked. Now I’m waiting to hear from Google that they have verified my ownership, accompanied by a code to use to reset my password. They said it could take up to 48 hours. That would be tomorrow. It’s Sunday. I took a day of rest from fuming over this. Nice to know you care, though! SHOULD I be waiting? Is there something else I could be doing?

    Heya,

As far as I’m aware, there’s not anything else that you can do other than wait for them to get back to you. I’ve had to do this myself and while it is very frustrating, the end result (account access) is worth it!

I found that walking around outside, even in the heat, was much better than sitting in front of my computer! :)

Good to hear from someone who has “been there.” Thanks for the encouragement.
