How do I set a featured image on a homepage?

    I’d like to add a featured image to my homepage that isn’t the WordPress logo. I’d like when I send a link, e.g. in Teams, it doesn’t use the default WordPress logo (e.g. below).

    I know that it’s possible as I can see it with another site with a cheaper plan (however it was many version of WordPress ago). I am using the Urbem theme, on a premium plan (so no plugins). I can’t set the featured image in the page editor like I can with pages, because it looks like this:

    I can see the option fine for other pages.

    I’ve seen some posts that say I need to go into Settings > Media and set the default featured image, but I don’t have that option.

    I can’t find anything in the Theme design that would suggest I can change it. I tried my luck adding the “featured image” block to see if it could be changed there but it’s just a view-only block.

    Can anyone tell me how to set a featured image for my homepage?!

    Hi @oranjutanj,

    I see that you change the featured image of your site. Are you still needing help to change to a different one?

    Urben theme uses a template-based homepage, which can make it tricky to set a Featured Image directly, since you’re not editing a standard page.

    One possible workaround is to create a new static homepage that you can fully customize, including setting a Featured Image that will show up when the site is shared on platforms like Teams or social media. Here’s how:

    1. Create a new page at Pages → Add New, and give it a title like “Home.”
    2. On that page, use the Featured Image setting in the sidebar to upload the image you’d like to show when sharing your site.
    3. Publish the page.
    4. Then go to Settings → Reading and under “Your homepage displays,” select “A static page”, and choose the new page you just created as your homepage.

    This way, you’ll have full control over the homepage content and its Featured Image.

    Thought there’d be a “mark as answer” but there isn’t – this worked! Had to treat working with templates a bit differently but after a bit of reconfiguring of the page I got there.
